As owners of MegaTrunks.com, we wholeheartedly support The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. It's a wonderful organization that has a mission of caring for old, sick or needy elephants that have been retired from zoos and circuses.
Yes, these are the same elephants that entertained you as a child when you saw them at your local zoo or in circus acts. Now it's their turn to live the life of elephants in a 2,700 acre refuge in Hohenwald, TN. Why Tennessee? The climate is right for elephants to roam and graze in forests & open pastures, bathe & play in the spring-fed ponds, and enjoy the companionship of other elephants.
Many of the sanctuary residents led solitary and confined lives before being given a new lease on life by this charitable organization. Their continued happiness and the rescue of other needy elephants depends on our generosity. Providing the habitat, facilities and daily upkeep for these giant animals is no small matter. Yet The Elephant Sanctuary is run so efficiently it has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities.
There are many ways you can help, from donating money or items from their wish list, to simply buying a T-shirt, cap or calendar in "Our Girls Gift Shop."
